Thank you to all who contributed to our 'Tree of Warmth', and the canned food collection at the "Melton" performances. We have been able to pass on these gifts to our community both here at Suddaby and the the greater community beyond our doors. Together we were able to fill more than 30 cartons of food which will go a long way to help many families in need. There were so many warm items on our Tree of Warmth that we were able to pass on some of them to help
the homeless in our Region stay warm this winter. Your generosity is much appreciated!

Suddaby Stars are Students of Character!
Nursing Students at Suddaby From the begining of October until early December, there were 4 Conestoga-McMaster third year BScN Nursing students at Suddaby every Friday. They were learning about community nursing and how a
nurse can work in a community setting, outside of the hospital. Specifically how a nurse can work with elementary schools. What these students were focusing on is how to influence young children to make independent healthy food choices. In January we will have some new students. Watch her for information about their work at Suddaby! Here, you will find some information about healthy eating.

Terry Fox Run September 28th, 2011
The Terry Fox Run is done annually to commemorate Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope. Since Terry Fox began his run across Canada in 1980, The Terry Fox Foundation has raised over $550 million worldwide.
Last year Suddaby Stars raised $493.68 for the Terry Fox Foundation! This year our 'Toonies for Terry' campaign has raised $1064.00!! Way to go STARS! As a result of the total raised being over $1,000.00, Mr. Day had his head shaved on Oct. 4, 2011. Thanks for being a great sport Mr. Day! |

[Marker] Community Connection
Suddaby is very lucky to partner with some wonderful community agencies. Here is an overview of just a few of our neighborhood partners:
We have been fortunate to have many wonderful volunteer Big Brothers/ Big Sisters Mentors in our building for the last few years. The volunteers meet with students in the school to help with school work, social skills and literacy. More information on this program and its volunteers can be found on it's website at www.bbbswr.org. The United Way provides support for this program.
- Have you heard from your children about Bailey Basketball Who Loves to Bounce? Did you know that last winter and this fall we have been lucky enough to have Jaime Sobotka from the John Howard Society in our building with an Anti-Bullying Program funded by the United Way. Every class in our building heard the same message about how we need to care for each other and treat each other with respect and kindness. Thank you John Howard Society and particularly Mrs. Sobotka for helping us be better Suddaby Stars!
New this year: Suddaby has teamed up with McMaster Mohawk Conestoga BScN Program to provide experience in Community Nursing. We presently have 4, 3rd year nursing students at Suddaby on Fridays, who will be helping us learn about healthy food choices and taking good care of ourselves. They will be visiting the classrooms during the eating time to talk with students about healthy food choices and will also be offering information and suggestions to us which we will share on the website. Keep watching for more to come on
this.
- Nutrition for Learning is continuing to offer our students the Breakfast Club Program at Bethany Missionary Church every morning. Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who make a better day for the students with the delicious food provided and welcoming environment. Ifyou think you might like to volunteer some time with this program or would like more information please contact the school or follow the link provided above.
